Steamboy, Katsuhiro Otomo's latest film since Akira, will debut in Japanese theaters this July, according to Steamboy's official website.

Costing 2.4 billion yen (approx $20 million) to make, Steamboy has surpassed Princess Mononoke's budget of 2.35 billion yen, earning it the-not-so-flattering-if-it-flops title of the most expensive anime ever produced.

With anime's continued popularity influx here in the States, Steamboy could likely appear in U.S. theaters by sometime in 2005.
